Busted out of the house y'all for my last hoorah on the truck for a while!
The stress of last week's nonsense has had me in a pretty bad headspace, no point in even trying to hide it, not in my fashion of handling things. A $6k net loss in revenue for that week on top of the shop fees, and the cost of lodging, food while in the shop was the straw that broke the camels back for me. Pushing out bills to cover other bills, planning for this baby to come soon, it's all just sort of piling up. I needed a change in my office view and to pull out my steel toes and waddle into the truck for some road time.
Thankfully the universe and all things holy heard my prayers and as luck would have I was called yesterday about a load out of the local area. We fanagled a bit on the rate, told her to call me back if it still needed to be hauled for the rate we would run it for and to have a great day. She called back less than 40 minutes later to book the load for our rate. Come to find out it's for one of our absolute favorite customers that we've work with on and off with over the last year for another brokerage.
It made my heart so happy when we pulled up to shipper yard in the mud and muck and saw the head honcho come out and wave big to greet us I've worked hard to develop a good relationship with these big ol burly men and them seeing me out there all big and round with my high-vis vest, hard hat, dirty well used steel toes and work gloves throwing chains in the rain is important for us as a 1 truck carrier. I feel it helped remind me that while we are struggling right now, our reputation proceeds us and we do damn good work, and that HAS to count for something, even in my small little world.
I was a good 8 month pregnant open decker and didn't hop up on the trailer to secure, but did get a good workout in chaining, binding and strapping! My goodness it felt good to be back at it again, even if just for the morning
Daryl will be headed out to OK later today for delivery tomorrow morning and I'll be headed back to the house to continue my day of catching up on paperwork, booking a load for tomorrow and homeschooling! Never a bore in our little life of being an independent carrier, and have to take the small wins when they come across our table!
