Virago Transport LLC is ever so slowly making it's way towards Las Vegas, NV from Louisville, KY.
We’ll be shutting down in Flagstaff, AZ this evening and will finish the last leg of the trip tomorrow. Hopefully the wind will let up because it’s totally blowing our fuel mileage! We've traveled through 2 time zones today so our heads are kind of spinning haha I can officially say I'm a time traveler
Daryl indulged in my obsession with road side stands and we stopped off at the Yellow Horse Trade Store located at the last exit out of New Mexico and was fantastic for my need to souvenir shop lol I made it out with cute falsa blankets for the house and ogled their turquoise and silver jewelry. Full transparency...I have an unhealthy obsession for turquoise (I’d attribute it to my Navajo-Hopi roots but that’s probably not the case ). I will never NOT be surprised if it’s given as a gift *hint hint, Daryl*... Spent some time chatting with the sales woman who gave us quite a bit of information on her Navajo background, family life, and desire to continue traditional ways of life through her son. She told us about a member of her clan who is one of the last remaining code talkers from from WWllI, and how he helped develop and translate the last of their dialect. So incredibly fascinating to hear her talk with such pride in her people. She encouraged me to look further into my ancestral heritage after talking with Daryl about his Native American bloodline (Seminole) and role his ancestors played in the Trail of Tears. Might be something I’ll dig into at some point, I’m a Heinz 57 mutt with a smorgasbord of mixed races, so that may take some time lol
We’ll be looking to get a PM done tomorrow (preventative maintenance) while passing through Kingman before heading north on US 95 towards Vegas. A PM for a truck is basically a very expensive oil change that consists of changing out the oil and fluids, lubrication of the chassis, inspection of all major engine and truck components (hazard lights, turn signals, headlights, etc), checking the brakes, tires, making sure Obsidian is in tip top shape to run another several thousand miles. Unlike a regular oil change, a PM can take upwards to 2.5 hours to complete and run along the lines of $300-$500 depending on type and location where it’s completed. Needless to say, we will be figuring out how to change our own oil in the future, just need to find someone who will dispose of 11 gallons of used oil nearby LOL I’ve touched on the importance of maintenance on the truck, because one little issue could easily run into the thousands real quick and in a hurry!
Our delivery isn’t until Monday morning, so the weekend is kind of up in the air for us…Considered grabbing an Uber and hitting the strip for some sightseeing, making the best of a couple days down (aside from the daily goings on of the business, paperwork, planning, calculating, all the fun stuff LOL).
After our delivery we will be looking at booking something to get us headed back towards TX. We’ll be keeping an eye on the rates in the area, may have to hop over to CA to find something decent. That’s kind of the exciting part of this whole journey, every day the office view changes, and as an owner operator, you are free to go where you so please (as long as it is profitable LOL)
Here’s some sights from our day today! Hope y’all have a great weekend! I’m sure I’ll be posting pics along the way!
