Baby Updates!!

Updated: Aug 6, 2023

I'll start this post out with a loud and annoying mom announcement of Happy 23rd birthday Toryn Selby!!! We were so glad to get to catch up with you by phone and are celebrating you today! So proud of you and your secret squirrel military journey and can't wait to see you at the end of summer before you head to Korea! Quite the amazing young man you've become since I first met you when you were a little squeaky voiced 12 year old boy!

We've packed up and are ready to journey west to go get my little dude from his summer vacay!! This momma bear needs to hug and snuggle her cub something fierce!

Picked up this little ditty headed to Nogales AZ that had been sitting on the boards for a hot minute (after they raised the price significantly! We, like thousands of owner ops are still saying no to cheap freight!). After a much needed, yet not exactly budgeted for, few days at home catching up on doctor appointments, homeschool planning, business planning, truck maintenance and housework it was time to hit the road while this momma is still able to roll!

Cletus the Fetus update: After a good telehealth visit today with the MFM (high risk specialist) we developed an updated plan for managing my blood sugars for the rest of the pregnancy that calmed my nerves and that's a huge sign in an excellent provider! She heard my concerns, met me halfway in developing a treatment plan and is following up closely with weekly check calls to make sure all is well in between monthly appointments. Today is my first day on insulin because my placenta and hormones are being ridiculous the further along I get, which was to be expected, but still. I'm not a fan of insulin. I'm super sensitive to it, especially with my fluctuating hormones but I trust this doctor (which is a rarity in and of itself lol). She was super quick to order flexpens at my request so I don't risk dropping vials out in the truck and got the order for my new dexcom quick and painlessly! I nearly fell out when I saw the cost of just the first round of insulin, over $600 for the month charged to my insurance! Yet another reason to try and stay healthy folks, our healthcare/insurance system is so incredibly broken and expensive.

Still waiting to hear on who my new OB will be after firing the last one but have a good feeling that this provider is doing her due diligence to help me find a great care team!

In Virago Transport LLC news, it was a blistering hot pregnancy brain fueled day of ridiculousness starting off with me leaving my work boots at the house. I typically leave them in the truck but apparently wore them home on our last run. So when we arrived to pick up the telehandler I looked down and realized I still had my chanclas on...Ugh no bueno. I had no other footwear on the truck as we hadn't packed up all the way for our upcoming run, so I was forced to wear Daryl's tennis shoes to help load lol Y'all I looked like a kid wearing their dad's shoes out there sweating lady balls securing (of which Daryl took the liberty of snapping a few pictures of....he's not the company photographer for a reason....so embarrassing lol) So there I am in all my pregnancy glory, sweating lady balls, wearing my husbands gigantic tennis shoes in 110 degree heat. blood sugar dropping because the insulin kicked in....Yeah fun times LOL Trucking while 5.5 months pregnant, such an exciting and invigorating experience! The staff was awesome though, brought us cold water and checked on us while on the property since we were total newbs in this gigantic site! They were gracious enough to lead us around and show us the ropes (best believe I'm gonna be bugging them for additional work!)

We'll be driving through the night now that the temps are a little more reasonable (as if 101 is reasonable lol). But the cooler the road the less likely for a blowout due to catastrophic failure.

As the summer winds down (at least according to the calendar...in Texas it will remain crazy hot until November lol) I'm already getting that tightening in my chest and teary eyed knowing this will be my last couple of whoo-rah's out on the road and in this beautiful piece of iron for a long while once baby gets here. I won't post much about that right now, because I'm tearing up just thinking about it (damn pregnancy hormones). But it's definitely been a great summer of learning and in turn educating in trucking, seeing the country from coast to coast, growing our family and fighting tooth and nail with my partner in crime keeping our little family business going as we approach our 1 year mark as a company and 11 year mark as an old ball and chain couple this month!

I still have about a little over a month left in adventures in me so the posts will keep coming until then!

Here's to a safe trip to CA and hopefully a financially prosperous next month!
