Virago Transport LLC delivered it's second load this morning in Duluth, MN. Woke up at 4:30am to 30 degree weather (we definitely did not pack for the conditions like the true Texans we are ) in Portage, WI and ended our day in 70 degree weather in Owatonna, MN.
Today was a hardhat and high-vis clothing PPE day for us! Pretty neat to see the water sources that the customer would be using the geo tarps on that we brought in! We took an obligatory hard hat selfie off the job site because, ya know, we're professionals.
I booked my first cold call load over the phone today and scored a couple thousand dollars over what we were initially expecting. Happy to announce in the last 4 days we've managed to make enough profit to pay the truck, trailer, insurance, and some small bills for the month! Woohoo! We live to fight another month
We'll be taking the next 34 hours down shacked up in a truck stop while Daryl's hours reset and will pick up our third load Saturday then off to Portland, OR it is!
For those that didn't know, drivers must abide by strict hours of service guidelines on when they can and can't drive, and how much time they can drive within an 8 day period. Drive and work too much and you end up sitting.
They run off of 4 clocks: an 11 hour daily drive time clock, a 14 hour shift clock that a driver can drive those 11 hours, a 70 hour clock which a driver cannot drive over in 8 days, and the 30 minute break clock which tells the driver to take a mandatory 30 minute break within 8 hours of driving. And if that's not enough timekeeping there's also the 10 hour break clock where a driver is supposed to find time to shower/eat/do laundry/catch-up on actually living and sleep. And don't get me started on split sleeper berth breaks which I haven't even began to wrap my head around. Thank god Daryl is a pro at all things regulatory concerning hours of service, I'd have us shut down and fined heavily by DOT after our first week.
Tonight's meal was prepared by Galanz microwave/air fryer and our electric Skillet. We dined on brawts, mac and cheese, green beans and Wisconsin cheese curds that Daryl just HAD to have.
Another fun fact... trying to cook in a space with no water, limited power, close to no room to move around in is quite the challenge! It takes lots of ingenuity and critical thinking to get it all done without 1) burning down the truck, 2) making a massive disaster that you have few ways to clean up, and 3) shorting out the truck batteries so you're stuck stranded waiting on a $1000 jump from a road service.
We'll be working on getting our website up and going since we have a little down time, as well as linking in our Facebook and Instagram page for those that would like to follow on those platforms (we're slowly learning this process so bear with us ).
Pics today were from West Allis, WI to Owatonna MN, included some shots from Lake Superior and Minneapolis.
