Moving a family car

Hit the road running after we shut down for a couple of days tucked away with family spending time with Drake before heading out for the summer. This will be his first summer away from the nest, and mom is already struggling with day 1 being in the books LOL.

So to recap from last week, the last load we picked up in Wylie TX had to deliver in San Diego ended up being quite a cluster, due to major lack of communication between customers and broker, and of course as the carrier, we are stuck in the middle blowing in the wind for free (just shy of the 3 hour detention waiting period), waiting to offload the equipment and be back on our way. Thankfully the broker was cool and open to compensating us above their normal rate for detention, so honestly can’t complain too much. Another satisfied customer and relationship built with a broker.

Today we picked up a gorgeous ‘67 Ford Mustang from Daryl’s uncle in northern CA and will be transporting it across the country to GA. Little bit of load type information for the non-trucking folk: FTL is a full truck load meaning the deck or trailer is at capacity or reserved for the entire load while a LTL is less than truckload meaning only a portion of the deck space is being utilized per load, opening the door for multiple loads to be booked for the space remaining on the trailer to generate more profit ….This beauty of a car is considered LTL, so in order to make a profit, I was tasked to find additional items to haul along on our route. Thus far in our trucking journey I’ve only been working on FTL bookings, so this takes a lot more logistical planning...

But I digress, aside from the car I succeeded in booking my second partial along our route! The shipper we picked up from was in this adorable little farm town in Kerman CA and they were some of the nicest people ever! Gave me a little tour of the facility while Daryl got the truck set up in the dock for loading. Told us we were welcome back any time to haul for them because they are always looking for good quality carriers, which is so nice to hear!

The holiday this weekend is kind of throwing a wrench in my strategically planned endeavors though. We need to get the scissor lifts off the trailer by tomorrow or risk being stuck in NM over the weekend and into Tuesday since the customer is closed on Monday for the holiday, and that just eats into our ability to continue to progress towards our final destination and picking up additional partial loads. Daryl will be utilizing his knowledge of hours of service to flex as much time as possible to get us there legally within the allotted time frame that FMCSA allows him to drive…Which equals minimal stops and hopefully steady traffic so as to not lose time.. I will be trying my best to shmooze the customer to stay over an additional hour to unload these 4 units so we can be on our way…We shall see! Fingers crossed!

This is officially our “back on the road” summer tour for Virago Transport LLC! Hopefully my ADHD behind will be able to keep up with some exciting postings, awesome hanging out of the passenger side window scenery pictures and overall trucking education for those who get something from my ramblings!

Also, stay tuned over the next few weeks for some exciting news!
