Our first profitable month

So this week has been….interesting for Virago Transport LLC. Lots of lessons learned, lots of barriers revealed, lots of patience has been tested, and it’s only Wednesday!!

Professionally it's been insane. Personally, it's been hell on wheels with a lot of things going on, but I digress.

I’ll post more about our recent loads in detail later in the week once I mentally process them lol (along with a few pics that Daryl sent to me)...

Daryl Selby is presently headed to Santa Clara, CA from Salt Lake City, UT with loads of salt, which means he will be going through Donner Pass. I ask that everyone say a prayer and send good vibes his way as it is currently under weather advisory for snow with reported accidents and back ups already. He’s an excellent driver, safe as can be, but mother nature doesn’t mess around and even the safest of drivers have to be extremely cautious.

Rates are crap, fuel is crap, it's all crap lol

But we are hanging in there…Obsidian is working without issue (knock on wood). We are definitely learning to work together and pick up the slack where the other is lacking, and finding our ebb and flow in this whole operation. It’s the biggest test of our entire 10 years together, but I can’t say I’d pick a different partner to go through this journey with.

I won’t lie, there have been times where one of, if not both of us, have thought maybe we made a mistake by doing this. The stress is high, the money is low, the patience is thin, but we aren’t giving up.

The highest compliment we’ve received came from one of our brokers we book loads through when we were told he knows we’ve always done a great job and are dependable to get the job done, and it reminded me that even though the world is crap right now (especially in the trucking industry), it will survive, and we will survive through this and come out on top.

We are literally 6 days from 90 days on our authority and that will open up even MORE opportunities for us, as it shows that we are slowly earning our place in this whole thing.

Don’t get me wrong, we are still total newbs in the eyes of brokers and in the industry, but we are still moving forward, even if it’s at a snail's pace. The pendulum will swing the other way, it always does, and the lessons we’ve learned in the low times will only help us flourish in the high times.

I’m so proud of Daryl, I keep saying it, but everyday I’m finding something new to be appreciative of in what he (and all drivers and dispatchers). I’m at a total disadvantage in this situation, hoping I’m not the achilles heel. But I’m picking up ever so slowly on the goings on, ins and outs and hopefully helping to bring something to this table we’ve sat down at. My negotiation skills are getting better, I’m able to toss back figures that make sense and sometimes it works in our favor lol We are still operating above our break even, for the most part, and that in and of itself is something.

Anywhoo….that’s where we are at in the middle of this week.

I hope all is well with everyone!

But seriously, keep all of the drivers currently making their way through the poor weather across the country in your thoughts. Without them we’d have nothing, literally. And they are sacrificing an awful lot for an awful little to get what we need to use in our daily lives day in and day out.

After a review in our profit and loss statements for the month of October, we paid all of our bills both business and personal, and had a record breaking profit of $41.86….Woohoo book the cruise LOL But it’s in the black and not the red so we’ll take it! November will be tough, especially after this first week where rates went in the trash, not going to lie, but we are hanging in there!
